There are all types of bait that are out there for the fishermen of today and they come in all sorts of different styles and designs. One particular type of bait that is common to use is that of artificial bait that can be used instead of live bait and is often recommended or required in some lakes and streams. These can be lures, jiggers or others that are known to work in particular types of waters and several game regulations require that you only use artificial bait for particular waters and certain types of fish. Also artificial baits like crank bait and rubber worms are often used to substitute for live bait as well. In some streams you are allowed to even scent the bait with artificial scents that will help draw fish to your hook. Many fishermen today rely on the artificial bait as the main means of fishing and have had great luck with them in all sorts of different waters and conditions. Cut bait is the most common for big game fish but they often use artificial lures as well to land trophy fish that are hard to catch. The best thing to do is to check your local game regulations to see what is allowed in the water that you intend to fish. Artificial bait however is growing in popularity and is easy to find in any fishing supplies stores that you shop at to get your fishing supplies. There are plenty of options.

One of the most important things that you will need to know if you are a fisherman is that of some basic knot tying. Knots are important not only if you are tying your boat off but also for tying leaders or tying your hooks up. There are specific knots for all kinds of different things and it is wise to learn them and be proficient at tying them before you ever go fishing. You can always buy prettied hooks but you will still need to attach the leaders to your line and if they are tied incorrectly can come undone with a fish on. The other thing that will be important is to make sure that the tails or end of the line is not too long or too short on the knots. Basic knots like the slip knot and the sailors knots are good knots to know and will be useful in all kinds of situations. The proper knot can make all the difference in your fishing experience and most avid fishermen know several different knots that can be tied in different situations. If you are using a boat you will definitely want to know knot tying so that your boat is not taken away by the water or that an anchor or other gear is not lost overboard because the knot used did not hold. Knots and knot tying are very important not just in fishing but in all sorts of situations encountered.

In the world today there are all sorts of advancements taking part in almost every area of our lives and in the area of fishing it is no different. There are technology advancements everyday in the knowledge of fish and how they behave and how to catch them and there are literally thousands of advancements in the equipment that we use to catch fish. For example, one technological advancement is that in the area of fish finders or depth finders that send out sonar like signals that help spot many of the schools of fish that are running in the area. Not only will the fish finders tell you where they are at but also tell you how deep to drop your line in order to get it in front of them another advancement is in the actual gear that you use like lighter poles and better material that the poles are made of in order to keep them from breaking and also feeling the fish while you are playing it. Also the design of lures has come a long way in recent years making them more attractive to the fish. Reels have advanced with gears on them that allow the reel to operate better and more efficiently and also not break down as well. There are all sorts of technological advancements that have made fishing easier and also the equipment more durable than ever while still giving you a full fishing experience and the joy of fishing.

We all have been suffering from the hot weather that has plagued us this summer but there are a lot of other living thing that are having it just as bad as we are. There are thousands of arces of corn and beans that are just burning up from the heat and no rain. A lot of it is being cut down for feed which we all know means higher prices for food. Then you have the cattle herds that being sold off early because the pasture land is not there for them to feed from and again higher prices for all of us. There is another living creature that most of us do not think of as having problems from the heat and lack of rain and that is fish. Unless you are a fisherman you do not think about them. Most people thing because they live in the water that they have no problems because where do most people go for relief from the heat, water. When the temperatures continue to be in to 90′s the water continue to heat up and evaporate and there are many species of fish that do not do well in hotter waters. Nebraska has seen thousands of dead sturgeon, catfish, carp and the endangered pallid sturgeon in the Lower Platte River. Illinois is reporting thousands of large and smallmouth bass, channel catfish and the endangered redhorse as well. Des Moines River is reporting nearly $10 million in dead sturgeon. The eggs from these sturgeon are used in caviar. Not only is the heat a problem but add the fact of the drought and there is any other catch. The water supply starts to shrink pushing the fish a way from there feeding areas and making it easier for predators to feed. So you can see that fish have it just as hard as all other living things upon the earth and keeping water in reservoirs for recreational fishers in not on the top of priority lists. There are fish kills in most summers in private ponds and streams but this year the weather has made the situation much worse.
Let me begin by saying I am not a fisherman that fishes for Muskie but that does not me mean that I can’t write about Muskie fishing. Now dose it? With all kinds of help on the internet these days and basic common knowledge of fishing.
Muskie is a fish that is best caught when the water temperature is colder, so we would think in the summer that they would not be as ready a target fish but if one would just go back to the basics along with the use of the latest lure and electronics that fisherman have these days.
OK, here we go with the basics and by the way this can work with what ever kind of species of fish you are on the hunt for. There are two main concerns: structural targets and presentation . Structure come first before presentation as presentation must adapt to structure. Structure can be simply broken as shoreline and open water. Shoreline fish holding structures: weeds, emergent vegetation, rocks, wood, sand, sharp breaklines and channel edges. Open structure: food. Muskies are predators and once they are big enough not to be food for other predators they pretty much can eat what they want. So in open water you want to find the food source and zero in on that to hook into Muskie, of course the main thing to consider is the presents of Muskie.
So remember the basics and good fishing for Muskies in the summer.

Mr Whiskers, better know to most as catfish. There are the different, Channel catfish, Blue catfish and Flathead catfish. One thing about cat fishing anyone can do it. Oh , you can buy a big fancy rig like the pro bass fishermen, which some pro cat fishermen do but you can have just as good of luck setting on the bank of the water with your rod propped in a forked stick. You see, catfish love to lay it the cut backs of the bank as well as drop offs in deeper water of river and lakes as well as lakes and ponds. You see you can find catfish in big rivers, like the might Ohio and some not as large as the Wabash, White and St. Joseph. That pretty much spans the whole state of Indiana south to north. I know for a fact that the St. Joe has two types of catfish in it as I have caught Channel and Blue both in the South Bend area and all from the bank with rod propped in a forked stick in the middle of the afternoon sun. So those of you who think that you can only catch catfish at night, let me tell you, you are missing the boat, so to speak. Granted that more catfish are caught after dark but if you can’t get out there at night, give it a try during the daylight hours.
The Ohio River is the place that most think of producing catfish and is true that it has all three species in abundance and at trophy size. The state record catfish came from a lake while the Ohio State record came from the Ohio. Where to look for catch fish, logjams, fallen trees, submerged log or stumps, around rocks or other areas that offer an eddy or current breaks. Deeper holes and behind islands and underwater humps.
You want to use heavier equipment and line when going after catfish. You have to be able to horse catfish from where the lay. So go ahead and join a great number of people who are going after the cat in places like Patoka Lake, Monroe Reservoir, Salomonie Reservoir and ponds and pit throughout Indiana.
Remember to stay save where ever you go after the big one.

There are some places and situations in the world where fake is better. For years fishermen look for the best ways to catch fish and have tried almost everything under the sun. With state regulations getting tighter, on catch limits and hook and release several fisheries have gone to only allowing certain kinds of methods to be used to catch the prize fish. Some fisheries only allow artificial bait instead of live bait to be used and the manufacturers of fishing gear have come up with some excellent artificial bait to be used in those situations. Lures of all sizes and colors are available today with each fisherman having his own favorite. There are all sorts of artificial baits on the market from jiggers and crank bait to rubber worms all designed to attract and catch fish. There are even some scents that can be applied to these devices to help in the fisherman’s quest. You will need to check local regulations to see if they are allowed and also what kind of hook can be used with them like a barbless or single hook as opposed to a treble hook. Artificial bait can work wonders and depending on where you are at can even be better than live bait in many situations. Go to any store that stocks fishing gear and you will find a wide selection of choices of artificial bait to use for your next fishing expedition. Who knows you might be hooked on them.
If most of you are like me, you are interested in having the lates and best technology that is available. Am I right? OK, read on as this article my change some of your thinking when it comes to fishing and catch and release. There have been some biologists studying different species and have come up with some pretty interesting assumptions to prudent questions. So let us take a look at their findings.
Dose fishing pressure make fish more difficult to catch? (Rainbow Trout)
Test setup was this: three lakes were chosen and net sample was taken for each and the fisher were tagged and released
Three anglers were setup with the same gear
First lake was fished everyday for fours hours for thirty days and the trout were released within the hour - result were, first five days catch rate was 16 trout per day however the catch rate declined rapidly to 5 trout per day by day 15. The other two lakes were fished once for one hour. So you can see that the heavier fished lake produced less catch rate. So what can you do to change your catch rate with smart fish? Change the bait!!!!!
Are your chances of fishing success better in a lake that contains a lot of fish or fewer fish?(Walleye)
This study was done on Oneida Lake in New York and on 215 lakes across Ontario. Their findings here delete with not only fish population but also growth rate and abundance of prey. In the study in New York your catch is greater when the prey abundance is lower. In Ontario it also had to with prey but with the added twist that 60 of the lakes had no ciscoes but had yellow perch the other 155 had both prey. So what to do, fish lakes with low population of prey but with ciscoes and lower population of Walleye will produce trophy Walleye.
So that is how science and technology put together can solve your catch rate.
Lets go fishing,
William

Welcome to my new Web site that will deal with everything with fishing. Why would I want to start a new site dealing with fishing when there are so many on the web already? I have just retired and find that I have the time now to get into my life long interest of fishing and looking forward to giving out useful info and getting information out that other sites are not. I am also looking forward to receiving comments on places, preferred baits, guide services and whatever you as a reader would like to share with others.
Please continue to check back to see what topics are being added continuesly along with any new comments that have posted by others. If you fish we want to hear from you. A few of categories that will be up for discussion will be: safe boating classes, different types of knots used and favorite fishing spots to just name a few.
As a youngster I did as much fishing as I could and even worked in a bait shop (for free) just to be around people who fished and always had a good story to tell and some of those stories I would say where a bit of a tall tale, if you know what I mean but as I became a nine to five guy there just didn’t seem to be the time for me to be fishing. While you are here and checked out the articles, take a minute and look at the Shop Tab and check out the stores that we have. As we all know, you get your best deals on line and without leaving home to stand in a checkout line when you could be sharing fishing with like minded people.
