NEW SPOT

Thursday, November 22nd, 2012

For those that like to fish there is a big similarity to part of hunting and that is the search. Not just the search for fish but the search for the new spot that the fish might be lying in. In the ocean most of the commercial captains will stay on the radio and tell you what new spots that the fish are biting in each day and in the river fishing world a river can change from year to year and the spots that were good one year might not even exist the next year or be no good and the fisherman will need to look for new spots to fish and find their trophy. This is one of the pieces that make fishing so intriguing. Finding the new spot with lots of action and plenty to talk about later after the fishing is over. No matter what body of water you like to fish whether it is a lake, a river or stream and even the ocean the fish will migrate and it is up to the fisherman to figure it out and find the holes that have the fish. It is all guess work for the most part but the experienced angler can look at the water and see where the best spots usually are and where the fish might be at on a particular body of water. Finding new spots is all part of the game and can be fun for the fisherman.

CHANGES

Tuesday, July 31st, 2012

For those that like to fish there is always the desire to find new and better fishing spots. If you like river fishing it might be a new hole in the river that looks very good to fish at or for the lake fisherman it might be a new area of the lake that you have found to be very successful to fish at or even a new lake. Fishermen are always on the lookout for new spots that they hope will guarantee lots of action and better fishing. Fishing spots are important not only because they might hold fish but also to boost your confidence. There are many fishermen that feel just luckier in certain places than others and even if they have gone all day without catching a fish they feel that a certain hole will bring them the catch they desire and can catch a fish or two there. Fishing is a lot about being comfortable in a certain place and it is almost like you can wish the fish on the line and that is what a new hole or spot can often provide. It makes no common sense but it seems to work. Finding that new fishing spot to fish can build your confidence. It can also become a great place to catch your limit, as the fish migrate from place to place around the different bodies of water that you are fishing. Finding a new spot can change your fishing luck.

AS THE RIVER TURNS

Monday, March 5th, 2012

Just as the seasons come and go so do the rivers and streams change their course. Rivers and streams can change an old established fishing hole into nothing more than a mud bank depending on the snow melt or flooding or any of a multitude of natural occurrence that will change the course of a waterway. Each year our waterways change course and will create new and different places for the fish to lay while making their trek up or down stream. Change of waterways occurs mainly in the rivers and streams, lakes and oceans can also experience changes that will cause the fish to stay in new areas. Rivers and streams are more predominately affected by floods and glacier run off and with an increasing water flow can change

completely eliminating old fishing spots all the while adding new holes that will provide lots of action for the sports fisherman. The change of rivers and streams provide a constant challenge to those that favor fishing there with finding new opportunities as well as revisiting old spots that still exist on the waterway. With this challenge each year thousands of fishing enthusiast take to the rivers and streams to see what is in store for them prepared to take Mother Nature’s challenge and try to win in the game of fishing. No matter what the odds with rod and reel in hand the mighty angler seeks his fortune of fish while battling the changes nature has placed against him.

FINDING A HOLE

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

Every angler is always looking for that new fishing hole to improve his catch. As he meticulously views his surroundings and the water that lays in his path he is on guard to find a new and better fishing hole. Most fishermen already have their favorite spots to fish and go back to them time and time again but the advanced fisherman is always on the lookout for new fishing spots that will provide lots of action on the end of his pole. Fishing is much like treasure seeking in that it is a constant challenge to figure out where the fish are and what will attract them to pick your line. It could be the shininess

of the lure or the smell of the bait but if one can’t find where the fish are staying no matter what you have for equipment it will not work. The search for fishing spots is nothing new and those in the guide or charter business are constantly looking for new and better spots to take their customers to catch fish. For those who provide chartered fishing trips or guided fishing trip lots of action for their customers is paramount in their own success and can often break them if they can’t get their paying customers to where the fish are. It will always be a search to find news holes and make sure the hold holes are still fish able as the sports fisherman continues his treasure hunt for the bounty of fish he is seeking.

NEW ADVENTURES

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

For most people new adventures are something to look forward too. If you’re a fisherman a new place to fish or different kind of fishing can be one of the best adventures imaginable. The potential for new kinds of fish to catch and the thrill of lots of action can be enough to just about push one over the edge of excitement. For many going to places like the famed Copper River in Alaska to fish for sockeye salmon, or Hawaii or off the coast of Mexico for Marlin is an adventure in and of itself. Not only can new favorite fishing spots be created but fishing spots in general will be learned and hopefully a greater appreciation for the sport will be realized. New areas to fish are always exciting and if one is new to the sport learning different styles of fishing as well as using different gear and catching different species is always an added bonus. One should never be afraid to try new spots for fishing and new styles of fishing if it is not you’re cup of tea it will certainly help you realize just what one does enjoy about fishing. Most fishermen are eager to try their hand at different places and different ways to fish regardless of the outcome just as long as they are out in nature and facing the challenge of man or woman versus fish and who will win the battle. It does not matter where you are as long as you’re fishing.

BOAT LICENSE

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Each year thousands of boating accidents occur in the waters in and around the United States. Despite an increase in law enforcement on the water ways people still don’t take the time to learn proper boat safety. For the weekend warrior the idea of taking a boating class makes little sense yet those are the very individuals who continuously risk the safety of their lives let alone others with their poor boating skills. Each year the United States Coast Guard offers classes all over the country for boaters to learn boat safety but those who need it most often ignore taking the courses and thus putting other boaters at risk. Courses in such things as boat safety, rules of the road and navigation are offered by Coast Guard Auxiliary (volunteers to the Coast Guard) in order to make the water ways more safe. Because no license is required to operate a boat unless you’re piloting a commercial vessel the problem of boating safety is negligible. Commercial vessels require those wishing to pilot a boat sit through a series of tests conducted by the Coast Guard and require a ninety percent on the first test (always rules of the road) in order to advance to the other tests and receive your license. Although it would be difficult this type of licensing should be required for all operating a boat. Information like what a well equipped boat has and the importance of life jackets would go a long ways toward safe boating.

Welcome to www.fishingthis.com

Friday, January 20th, 2012

Welcome to my new Web site that will deal with everything with fishing. Why would I want to start a new site dealing with fishing when there are so many on the web already? I have just retired and find that I have the time now to get into my life long interest of fishing and looking forward to giving out useful info and getting information out that other sites are not. I am also looking forward to receiving comments on places, preferred baits, guide services and whatever you as a reader would like to share with others.

Please continue to check back to see what topics are being added continuesly along with any new comments that have posted by others. If you fish we want to hear from you. A few of categories that will be up for discussion will be: safe boating classes, different types of knots used and favorite fishing spots to just name a few.

As a youngster I did as much fishing as I could and even worked in a bait shop (for free) just to be around people who fished and always had a good story to tell and some of those stories I would say where a bit of a tall tale,  if you know what I mean but as I became a nine to five guy there just didn’t seem to be the time for me to be fishing. While you are here and checked out the articles, take a minute and look at the Shop Tab and check out the stores that we have. As we all know, you get your best deals on line and without leaving home to stand in a checkout line when you could be sharing fishing with like minded people.

Enjoy and be save fishing,

William
